What is the benefit of a mashboard? How does a mashboard differ from a mashup? For a number of business scenarios, the easiest way to answer these questions is to identify the swivel-chair phenomenon associated with information monitoring and then focus on integration to yield productivity enhancements.

The manual 'swivel-chair' approach to information monitoring is time consuming and reactionary in a number of industries. During the last few weeks of July and the early part of August 2006, a large section of the USA was dealing with extreme heat and humidity. Up and down the east coast and across most of the mid-section, US parks and beaches were exposed to consecutive days of extreme heat which had an impact on the health of local beaches. How would beach officials and citizens be proactively aware of the impact heat, stagnation and other factors had on their beach destinations?
